I februari i år fick svenska Diamyd Medical tillstånd av Läkemedelsverket att följa upp de barn och ungdomar som 2005 fick bolagets diabetesvaccin i en fas II-studie. Nu visar uppföljningen att de personer som fick vaccinet har en bättre status för sin diabetes typ I, fyra år efter vaccineringen.
Personerna i studien var nyinsjuknade i diabetes typ I och fick en spruta med vaccinet vid studiens start och en injektion fyra veckor senare. Det är den behandlingen som bolaget nu följer upp och fortsätter att följa i tre år till.
Två tredjedelar av de som ursprungligen var med i studien har tackat ja till att vara med i uppföljningen, som löper under totalt sju år. Diamyd Medical är ett svenskt bolag med kontor i Sverige och USA och har specialiserat sig på autoimmun diabetes, diabetes typ I. Idag har företaget tre produkter i klinisk fas.
