Klusterverksamheten Medicon Valley Alliance, MVA, har gjort en kartläggning bland 47 av sina icke börsnoterade bioteknikbolag. I genomgången uppskattar bolagen själva att de tillsammans behöver få in motsvarande 1,4 miljarder kronor för att kunna fortsätta med samma aktivitetsnivå under 2010, som 2009.
- Det är deras egen uppskattning. Det kan mycket väl vara så att de behöver mer för att upprätthålla aktivitetsnivån, säger Stig Jørgensen, vd MVA.
Samma bolag uppskattar chanserna för att få den nödvändiga finansieringen till mindre än 25 procent. Om bolagen inte får in finansiering under de första månaderna av 2010 kommer hälften av bolagen – 23 stycken - att försvinna inom sex månader, enligt undersökningen.
Det är första gången som MVA gör undersökningen och det finns inga exakta siffror på hur många bolag som brukar läggas ner varje år. Uppskattningsvis kan det röra sig om tre till fyra bolag per år under 2008 och 2009, enligt Stig Jørgensen.
- Men det kommer att bli fler 2010.

- Det är lätt att starta ett biotechbolag och det kräver inte så mycket pengar. Men nu är många av våra projekt i klinisk fas och då är de mer kapitalkrävande, säger han.
