Pfizer räknas idag som världens största läkemedelsbolag. En av de största anledningarna till det är bolagets kolesterolsänkande preparat Lipitor, som är världens mest sålda läkemedel idag. Analysen från konsultföretaget Evaluate Pharma visar dock att den trenden inte kommer att hålla i sig. Enligt rapporten kommer dyra läkemedel för att behandla cancersjukdomar och reumatiska sjukdomar även fortsättningsvis vara den viktigaste inkomstkällan. Behandlingar mot exempelvis högt kolesterol och hjärtsjukdomar kommer däremot att förlora kommersiell potential under de kommande fyra åren, enligt en artikel på business.dk.
I dagsläget toppar Pfizers Lipitor läkemedelsförsäljningen globalt, men redan nu finns Roches cancerpreparat Avastin och Rituxan som nummer sju och åtta på listan. Enligt analysen kommer även Roches tredje cancermedicin, Herceptin, att finnas bland de tio mest sålda preparaten år 2014. Det är dessa tre preparat som huvudsakligen kommer att göra att Roche går om Pfizer som världens största läkemedelsbolag, enligt Evaluate Pharmas analys.
Lipitor säljer idag för 86 miljarder kronor årligen - en fjärdedel av Pfizers omsättning. Enligt analysen kommer de tre schweiziska cancerpreparaten att bidra till Roches omsättning med sammanlagt 169 miljarder år 2014. Roche skulle i så fall troligen klättra från en sjundeplats i världsrankningen till en förstaplats, enligt analysen.
