Peter Bramberg, chef för Life Sciences på Invest Sweden, tror det kan finnas en praktisk förklaring till varför Sverige lockar nya produktionsanläggningar.
- När stora sajter som Astrazeneca i Lund läggs ner, ser andra företag naturligtvis en möjlighet att använda resurserna, säger Peter Bramberg.
Men det finns ingen risk för att Sverige ska bli ett land för enbart produktion och ingen egen forskning eller utveckling, enligt Peter Bramberg.
- Sverige är känt för sin kompetens inom life science och produktionen som flyttas hit är mestadels inom specialområden som kräver särskilda nyckelkompetenser, som till exempel antikroppsproduktion. Att dessa företag flyttar hit kommer snarare att sporra svensk forskning och industri, säger Peter Bramberg.
Och Kemwell och Cepheid är inte de enda exemplen. Förra hösten invigdes Pfizers nya fabrik i Strängnäs. I konkurrens med USA, Storbritannien och Singapore, utsåg bolaget Sverige till det land som var bäst lämpat att bygga den nya lokalerna i. Totalt har big pharma-bolaget investerat 1,5 miljarder kronor.
- Sverige har ett mycket gott företagsklimat. Här har vi också välutbildad personal som har arbetat för Pfizer en lång tid. Vår gamla anläggning i Strängnäs är den bästa i världen enligt våra säkerhets- och miljöstandarder, sa Nat Ricciardi, global marknadschef för Pfizer, vid invigningen av fabriken i augusti 2009.
- Sverige har också en rad fördelar som utmärkt sjukvård, nationella register och goda förutsättningar för kliniska prövningar, fortsatte han.
- Fabriken är en mycket viktig investering eftersom det lockar fler investeringar till Sverige. Det är också en fördel för den akademiska världen att få hit globala företag eftersom de är en viktig del av innovationssystemet, säger Sveriges näringsminister Maud Olofsson. I fabriken ska genmodifierade E. coli-bakterier används för att producera tillväxthormonen Genotropin och Somavert. Med sina 6 000 kvadratmeter, är fabriken den största enheten för tillverkning av biologiska läkemedel i Sverige. Däremot har Pfizer inte anställt någon ny personal till den nya anläggningen. Men eftersom fabriken har anlagts här behöver företaget inte heller minska personalstyrkan.
- Vi är omorganiserar vår nuvarande personal till den nya fabriken så att alla 250 anställda som arbetar här i dag kan stanna, säger Johan Brun, medicinsk chef på Pfizer Sverige.
