Forskningsbolaget Active Biotech meddelade i sin årsrapport för 2011 att 25 anställda kommer att varslas om uppsägning. Detta för att bolagets forskningsprojekt framöver kommer att tas över av olika samarbetspartners vilket minskar behovet av anställda.
Vid slutet av 2011 hade Active Biotech 79 anställda varav merparten arbetar inom forskning och utveckling.
Vad gäller årsrapporten så redovisar bolaget en minskad förlust för helåret 2011. Periodens resultat landade på -94,5 miljoner kronor vilket kan jämföras med resultatet för helåret 2010 som var -221,1 miljoner kronor. Resultatet fick en positiv vändning efter att Active Biotech under 2011 tecknat samarbetsavtal med det franska läkemedelsföretaget Ipsen om att utveckla läkemedelskandidaten Tasquinimod för behandling av prostatacancer. Projektet testas i dag i ett kliniskt fas III-program och affären gav Active Biotech 221 miljoner kronor i en förstagångsbetalning.
Avtalet speglades även i den positiva nettoomsättningen som var 234,6 miljoner kronor för 2011 vilket kan jämföras med omsättningen för 2010 som var 11,4 miljoner kronor. Dessutom genomförde bolaget en emission under året och fick in 389,6 miljoner kronor efter emissionskostnader.
Samarbetet med Ipsen stärker Active Biotechs kassa och de likvida medlen var vid årets slut 465,2 miljoner kronor, vilket kan jämföras vid utgången av 2010 då de likvida medlen var 131,1 miljoner kronor.
Active Biotech driver flera projekt i klinisk fas och avtalet med franska Ipsen var ett av flera planerade. Nu letar bolaget samarbetspartner främst till forskningsprojektet Anyara, ett fas III-program inom njurcancer, och till läkemedelskandidaten 57-57, för behandling av systematisk skleros, som i dag befinner sig i klinisk fas I och har beviljats orphan drug-status i Europa.
